Chinese Gospel Broadcasting Centre (CGBC) – Spreading the Eternal Gospel in a Digital Age
In an era shaped by rapid technological change, the Chinese Gospel Broadcasting Centre of Canada (CGBC) stands as a steady beacon of faith—connecting timeless biblical truths with modern digital tools. Founded in the early 1980s by a group of devoted believers, CGBC was born out of a heartfelt concern for the spiritual nourishment of Chinese immigrants adjusting to life in a new land. Many families were juggling long work hours and cultural transitions, and regular church attendance was not always possible. Moved by compassion, these pioneers embraced what was then “cutting-edge” media: cassette tapes.
They recorded and freely distributed gospel materials—Bible lectures, sermons, Sunday school lessons, marriage and family seminars, and theological talks—to churches, individuals, and seekers. These humble tapes served several purposes: they allowed believers to revisit God’s Word anytime, supported under-resourced congregations in teaching ministries, and reached into the marketplace. It was not uncommon for factory owners, restaurant managers, or shopkeepers to play tapes during work hours, sowing quiet seeds of hope among workers and customers. From its inception, CGBC held fast to a simple but profound conviction: God speaks to hearts through Scripture—whenever and wherever people are ready to hear it. Our calling has always been to create pathways for that encounter.
A Ministry Growing with the Times
As decades passed, CGBC continued evolving with technological advances while preserving its original vision:
to proclaim the gospel freely, creatively, and accessibly to all who seek spiritual nourishment.
Today, CGBC serves Chinese-speaking communities worldwide—new immigrants, long-time believers, young seekers, and the spiritually curious—through multimedia gospel outreach. All content is provided entirely free, removing financial barriers and ensuring that as many people as possible can engage with God’s Word.

Building on our audio legacy, CGBC’s podcasts remain foundational. 2. YouTube: Visual Teaching for a New Generation

3. Daily Devotionals: Digital Habits for Spiritual Formation
One of our signature programs is Shower of the Spirit (SOS)—a concise, daily devotional series designed to cultivate consistent spiritual habits. Formerly audio-only, SOS was relaunched in late 2023 as a daily video ministry with its own YouTube channel (youtube.com/@sos_cgbc) and TikTok presence (tiktok.com/@cgbconline). These bite-sized reflections help believers form a rhythm of Scripture meditation amid the busyness of modern life.
CGBC also collaborates with trusted partners such as Crossroads Publications (宣教日引) to bring high-quality devotional and spiritual formation content to a broader audience.
Current Ministry Focus: Strengthening Discipleship and Spiritual Formation
While evangelism remains central to our mission, CGBC’s current emphasis is on:
- deepening Christian discipleship,

- promoting daily spiritual habits, and
- helping individuals cultivate a living, personal relationship with God.
This shift reflects a key recognition: in a digital world filled with noise, believers need more than occasional teaching—they need steady guidance that forms spiritual resilience, biblical literacy, and consistent devotion.
Through podcasts, video series, devotionals, interviews, and new Bible-learning initiatives—including original-language studies and accessible theological content—CGBC seeks to help Christians grow in faith from Monday to Saturday, not just on Sundays.
Challenges and Needs
Sustaining a ministry built on free content is both a joy and a challenge. Like many ministries, CGBC has felt the impact of inflation, rising operational costs, and fluctuating donations following the pandemic and global economic uncertainty. With an annual budget of roughly $80,000, every dollar must stretch across:
- content production and editing
- software and hosting fees
- modest stipends for speakers and producers
- office expenses (rent, utilities, insurance)
- equipment maintenance
Despite these constraints, God has graciously provided dedicated volunteers—especially in recent years—whose time and skills have helped offset financial pressures and kept our content flowing. Their service is an unmistakable sign of God’s provision.
Yet the needs remain real. The digital mission field is vast, and the spiritual hunger is deep. Without stable prayer and financial support, opportunities to produce fresh materials or expand our spiritual-formation resources may be limited.
